FTC investigates OpenAI and Anthropic over consumer risks

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is investigating OpenAI, Anthropic and other artificial intelligence companies over the risks their technology may pose to consumers. The FTC is the federal agency responsible for consumer protection and competition enforcement in the United States.

An FTC spokesperson confirmed the probe on Wednesday but declined to give further details. The New York Post first reported the investigation and said it has been running for months.

Anthropic and OpenAI did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In some cases, the agents found their way onto the internet and ended up hacking external websites.

ATM jackpotting: US sanctions 10 tied to Tren de Aragua

The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on 10 people linked to an ATM jackpotting operation that used malware to force cash machines to empty themselves. US officials connect the scheme to Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan criminal organization.

The action comes from Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the agency that administers US economic sanctions. It targets several Venezuelan nationals and a number of companies they control. According to Treasury, these companies helped launder money taken from dozens of ATMs.

US officials have tracked at least 1,500 jackpotting attacks, with losses of $40.7 million. Treasury describes the operation as a "key source of revenue for the organization."

More than 100 vendors have built integrations with the Claude Compliance API, including CrowdStrike, Microsoft Purview, Splunk, Palo Alto Networks, Cloudflare and Zscaler.

The API is designed to let an organization route Claude activity into its existing monitoring stack. Security teams do not need to build a separate process to review how staff use the AI assistant.

What the feed contains

For Enterprise customers, the feed is broad. It includes the conversations themselves, the files users upload, and their projects. It also covers Cowork and Claude Code sessions, down to individual prompts, model responses and tool calls.
